Kansas City Chiefs free agency one year ago today

Derick E. Hingle-USA TODAY Sports

Kansas City Chiefs fans are feeling pretty good today with the Jeremy Maclin news expected to become official some time soon. One year ago today (March 11), Chiefs fans weren't so happy.

It was in that 2014 free agency that the Chiefs saw an exodus of players that was somewhat jarring at the time. On the first day of free agency last year -- actually the first hour -- the Chiefs lost these players:

Giants G Geoff Schwartz (4 years, $16.8M)

The offensive line clearly struggled and it would've been nice to have Geoff Schwartz back. But I will point out that the Chiefs o-line issues came partially due to injuries they couldn't overcome. Still ... this one hurt.

Titans WR Dexter McCluster (3 years, $12M)

De'Anthony Thomas looks like a more explosive player already. And he was injured the first month of last season. The Chiefs appear to have upgraded here. (I can't believe I really wanted the Chiefs to bring DMC back.)

Falcons G Jon Asamoah (5 years, $22.5M)

Like Schwartz, Asamoah would've been nice given the o-line struggles. But Asamoah was also benched last year for Schwartz.

Falcons DE Tyson Jackson (5 years, $25M)

The Chiefs extended Allen Bailey during the season and started 2013 waiver wire pickup Jaye Howard in the other spot. Mike DeVito is also coming back this season.

Dolphins LT Branden Albert (5 years, $46M)

Yeah, this one still stings.
