With the defensive backs working out at the NFL Combine on Monday, it's a good day to send a safety to the Kansas City Chiefs in a 2015 NFL mock draft. That's what Dan Kadar of SB Nation has done with his selection of Alabama safety Landon Collins for the Chiefs in his latest mock draft.
Dan's write-up reads:
Hey look, it's not a wide receiver or offensive lineman for the Chiefs. Unfortunately, the football future of the Chiefs' Eric Berry is unknown while he gets treated for Hodgkin lymphoma. As a precaution, Kansas City could roll with Collins and get the draft's top safety. Fellow starter Husain Abdullah has just one more season on his contract.
The problem with the selection of a safety is obviously that we don't know what the future for Eric Berry holds. The Chiefs likely don't know much either. This is all a waiting game as we hope Berry continues to recover. The Chiefs continue to negotiate with Ron Parker, who did a nice job replacing Berry at safety last season. If Parker is looking for $6 million per year, it's possible that's too rich for the Chiefs. With Husain Abdullah and Sean Smith entering the final year of their contracts, the Chiefs need to be prepared for the turnover in the secondary.
