Washington's Danny Shelton is one of the top defensive linemen in the 2015 NFL Draft and his position and weight reminds some of the Kansas City Chiefs' Dontari Poe, who was drafted No. 11 overall three years ago. Shelton is listed at 6'2 and 339 pounds while Poe was listed at 6'3 and 346 pounds. Both very large men.
Everyone here remembers the debate around Dontari Poe and his eye-popping Combine numbers during that 2012 NFL Draft. Is this guy for real or is he just a workout warrior? Suffice to say, we now know he's for real.
Every year around this time I remember back to Poe's workout, which was just unreal. What blows me away is that Poe was so much faster than others. He ran a 4.98 40-yard dash at 346 pounds which is just ... I mean, that's just ridiculous. Someone who out weighs me by almost 150 (OK, 140) pounds is obviously faster than me.
Compare Poe's 40-yard dash number to Shelton, who actually weighs less than Poe. Shelton ran the 40-yard dash in 5.66 seconds. Check out this photo comparing Poe's run with Shelton's. That blur in the far right is Poe. You can compare Poe's numbers with Shelton's numbers.
