Where would Chiefs' Chase Daniel rank on free agent QB market?

Denny Medley-USA TODAY Sports

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers released QB Josh McCown which puts another quarterback on the free agent market. This could affect the Kansas City Chiefs -- if they're in the market to trade Chase Daniel, who has one year remaining on his contract. We have no idea if that's something the Chiefs interested in doing but it's obviously a question that Chiefs fans are wondering.

McCown quickly becomes one of the better quarterbacks available. That's not so much a compliment to McCown as it is a knock on the free agent quarterback class, which is usually pretty bad (...because teams don't get rid of good quarterbacks).

Here's how NFL.com had the free agent QBs ranked before McCown was released:

1. Mark Sanchez
2. Brian Hoyer
3. Jake Locker
4. Ryan Mallett
5. Michael Vick

Chase Daniel is not a free agent but where would he rank on this list? Maybe around three or four? Is that too high? The problem with him not being a free agent is that someone would have to give something up for him in a trade, which they wouldn't have to do with these free agent quarterbacks.

The hard part about evaluating Daniel is that you have so few games to do it on. He has played two games in the last two years -- both in Week 17 vs. the San Diego Chargers. The Chiefs won both of those games (yes, I'm counting that 2013 Week 17 loss as a win because it was). He played well in those games but is that because Andy Reid put together such a great game plan or is it more about Daniel's talent?

I'm not one of those people who think it should be a sure thing that the Chiefs should look to trade Daniel. Of course I'm curious but not completely convinced yet. He is still the second best quarterback on the roster. Alex Smith has only missed one game in the last two years due to injury but that may not be the case next year. With the Chiefs likely in the playoff picture each year, I don't want a quarterback injury for a couple of games to completely derail the season. I have some faith that Daniel can go out and win a couple of games. I'm not so sure about the others.
