The best quarterback in the NFL is not named Alex Smith. But the best quarterback in the AFC playoffs not named Tom Brady? Now that would be Alex Smith.
The Kansas City Chiefs QB is one of the most experienced quarterbacks in the AFC playoff class. There are only four teams confirmed to me in while the Texans and Jets are hoping to clinched next week. If this is the 2016 playoff class then Smith would probably be the second best quarterback in the AFC playoffs ...
1. Tom Brady (Patriots)
2. Brock Osweiler (Broncos)
3. AJ McCarron (Bengals)
4. Brian Hoyer / Brandon Weeden (Texans)
5. Alex Smith (Chiefs)
6. Ryan Fitzpatrick (Jets)
...Which seems insane to say. But it's true, right? I'll hear your Ryan Fitzpatrick arguments but give me Alex, who is a more experienced quarterback than Fitzpatrick.
As it stands, the QBs going to the playoffs in the AFC not named Tom Brady have combined for 1 playoff win. By Alex Smith.— Benjamin Allbright (@AllbrightNFL) December 29, 2015
When I'm not sure about which two teams will win a game, my tiebreaker is to go with the better quarterback. In that scenario, the Chiefs have an argument that they're the second best team in the AFC right now. Which is why you get tweets like this...
I have absolutely no hunch about who will win the AFC. None.— Tom Pelissero (@TomPelissero) December 29, 2015
