We are a few weeks removed from the Jamaal Charles injury so it's time to take a step back and see how the Kansas City Chiefs are doing replacing him in the lineup.

When Jamaal first went down, most non-KC folks figured it would be Knile Davis to step in and play. After all, Davis was a third round pick just two years ago and had been the primary backup to Jamaal in the past two seasons.

However, the Chiefs surprised some by going with Charcandrick West. Those of you in Kansas City paying attention weren't that surprised that West was getting the main back because he was the closest thing to Jamaal that they had.

I will say I have been mildly surprised at just how little Davis has factored into the Chiefs running game since Jamaal exited the lineup. In the past three weeks, West has 51 carries for 240 yards (4.7 yards per carry). In that same time, Davis has 10 carries for 24 yards. That 2.4 yards per carry matches up with what he has done for the season on 21 total carries.

Moving forward, it's clearly West's job. The Chiefs do best when they run the ball well, evidenced by West's 110 and 97-yard efforts in the past two weeks (both wins). He had 22 and 20 carries in each of those games. His biggest challenge will come after the bye when the Chiefs visit the Broncos. A 100-yard effort against the NFL's best defense would be truly impressive.
