It's the 4-5 Kansas City Chiefs and the 2-7 San Diego Chargers on Sunday at Qualcomm Stadium. The Chiefs sit firmly in the AFC playoff picture as there's a way that the Chiefs can actually land in the sixth and final playoff spot after this weekend. Even with a loss, the Chiefs are in the AFC Wild Card conversation, which is crazy to think after their 1-5 start.
The Chiefs are 3-point favorites in this game. They haven't been favored in San Diego for a decade so things have changed quite a bit. The Chargers still have Philip Rivers, who is having a huge statistical season. San Diego just isn't getting the wins that usually come along with it. Part of that is due to all the injuries they've suffered this year.
Meanwhile, the Chiefs defense is the hottest in the NFL. They haven't given up more than 18 points since the first week of October. They have four straight games with at least two interceptions. Alex Smith hasn't thrown a pick since Week 3. The Chiefs are dominating the turnover battle, which is a big part of their success. It also helps that Charcandrick West has turned into a great replacement for Jamaal Charles.
I am predicting the Chiefs to win the game, 27-24. These games always seem to be close and Rivers is the Chiefs defense's best test in about two months. I'm curious to see where they actually rank among the league's best defenses.
