How about some good news, Kansas City Chiefs fans? Let's ignore the 1-4 record for a few minutes and focus in on two good things with the Chiefs right now.
1. Justin Houston: still very good after getting his money
There's always the fear that you're going to pay a player big money and he will change. He won't work as hard and will take the money and coast. Despite "only" three sacks, that is not happening with Justin Houston. He is still a dominant force to be reckoned with for the Chiefs.
He is still rushing the passer at a pretty good clip but perhaps not getting those extra takedowns of the quarterback like hd did last year. But the hurries overall are good.
Even better, Houston is very good against the run. He is NOT a one-trick pony. Pro Football Focus has him as the fourth highest graded outside linebacker against the run.
He's earning his money. With all those hurries, the sacks will come.
2. Dustin Colquitt: still very good at 33
Nearly half of Colquitt's punts have landed in side the 20. His net average is nearly three yards higher than any other season in his career. He is PFF's top-rated punter.
Yes, we laugh about the punter being the MVP of the team but I'd rather have him than not have him.
The Chiefs used to win by winning the field position game, and the combination of the Chiefs offense not turning it over and Colquitt pinning the opposing team deep and the Chiefs defense being suffocating made a lot of sense for a team.
Yeah, yeah, they're not winning but Colquitt is doing his part.
