The Kansas City Chiefs are adding more depth to their defensive line. According to a report from Rand Getlin of Yahoo! Sports, free agent defensive end Vaughn Martin has inked a one-year contract with the Chiefs.
DE Vaughn Martin has agreed to terms on a one-year deal with the #Chiefs, per a league source.

Martin, listed at 6'4 and 297 pounds, is a defensive end. He was last seen getting cut by the Lions last summer. Prior to that, he spent one season in Miami and the before that he was a four-year veteran of the San Diego Chargers. Martin has 27 starts in his career, all with the Chargers. He was a fourth round pick in the 2009 NFL Draft.
The Chiefs defensive end spot has plenty to be worked out. I can't see how Mike DeVito and Vance Walker come back next season with the money each is due. Then there's Jaye Howard, who did well enough replacing DeVito last season. If Martin can be a better, cheaper option then those linemen we'll have to consider him, too. It seems we're far from settled at that position with plenty of decisions to come as the offseason rolls on.
Just like the coaches, I'm all about adding competition wherever possible so I approve of this signing. We'll just wait for the Chiefs to formally announce the move some time in, oh, the next 5-6 months.
