Chiefs' Mike Catapano was placed on injured reserve this week

Mike Catapano's season is over.

Charles LeClaire-USA TODAY Sport

The Kansas City Chiefs put Mike Catapano on injured reserve this week with no announcement. Reporters at Arrowhead today said that he went on injured reserve so I went back and looked at the NFL's official transactions list and sure enough on September 22, he was placed on injured reserve.

Catapano practiced only a few times during training camp after being listed as out with an illness. The Chiefs placed him on the non-football injury list at the start of the season but now that he is on injured reserve his season is officially over. If he had stayed on the non-football injury list he would have been able to return this season but that's not the case with injured reserve.

So, what is wrong with Catapano? Nobody seems to know. Reid has on several occasions declined to say what's wrong with him, just that tests are being done, which he said again on Thursday. Read Terez Paylor's post for quotes from Reid.

Obviously at this point we're just hoping that Catapano gets healthy. Forget about football -- whatever the illness is, it's serious to sideline him for an entire year. Here's to hoping Catapano makes a return to the field at some point after this season.
