Chiefs announce Guinness World Record attempt for loudest stadium on Monday Night Football

Another year, another World Record attempt.

John Rieger-USA TODAY Sports

The Kansas City Chiefs are hoping to reclaim the title that's rightfully theirs. Or something like that. The team announced that on Monday Night Football against the Patriots, there will be a rep from Guinness on hand to measure the Arrowhead crowd noise. This means Chiefs fans are going for another Guinness World Record which, if you remember, they set last year before having to stolen by the Seattle Seahawks and CenturyLink Field.

The current record is 137.6 by Seattle, topping the Chiefs previous best of 137.5.

"Our fans are what make Arrowhead special. Monday Night Football offers them a unique opportunity to celebrate and come together on the national stage," Chiefs President Mark Donovan said in a statement. "From the entire stadium singing the National Anthem, to cheering for a Guinness World Record, to honoring our Armed Forces, we will unite to highlight what is great about our team, Kansas City and the entire Chiefs Kingdom."

In addition to the Guinness World Record attempt, the Chiefs will:

  • Ask fans to participate in the signing of the National Anthem
  • Have parachuters delivering the game ball pregame;
  • Have the United States Marine Corps Silent Drill Platoon perform at halftime.

Here's the run down on what's going on for Monday Night Football (via the Chiefs press release):

The World Record attempt

On Monday night, Chiefs fans need to be loud as Arrowhead Stadium will make a second attempt at capturing the Guinness World Record for Loudest Crowd Roar at an Outdoor Stadium. Chiefs fans at Arrowhead Stadium beat the fans of the Seattle Seahawks and held the record for seven weeks in 2013 until the Seattle Seahawks reclaimed the mark.

Guinness World Record adjudicator Philip Robertson will be on-hand throughout the game to register three official attempts at the world record as Chiefs Kingdom tried to supplant the current record of 137.6 decibels. Chiefs fans previously recorded a peak reading of 137.5 decibels inside Arrowhead Stadium last year.

Signing the national anthem

The United States Marine Corps Band, under the direction of Chief Warrant Officer Three Bryan Sherlock, will lead Arrowhead Stadium in the National Anthem. Established on October 1, 1978, the band is dedicated to excellence and committed to providing America with a glimpse of the Marine Corps' proficiency and versatility. As the country celebrates the bicentennial anniversary of the Star-Spangled Banner, the Chiefs are asking all fans to join in the singing of the National Anthem with the Marine Corps Band. A field-size American flag will be draped over the playing surface and held by Chiefs Season Ticket Members.

Parachuting into the game

Also during pregame, the United States Army Parachute Team, nicknamed "The Golden Knights," will parachute into Arrowhead Stadium to deliver the contest's game ball. The U.S. Army's official aerial demonstration team travels around the country performing its parachute demonstrations to connect the Army with the public. The Golden Knights represent the finest of soldiers and personifies the Army values, showing the world the professionalism, precision and discipline of today's modern Army.

Halftime show

At halftime, the United States Marine Corps Silent Drill Platoon will wow the crowd with its unique precision drill exhibition. The highly disciplined 24-man rifle platoon exemplifies the professionalism associated with the United States Marine Corps. The group executes a series of calculated drill movements and precise handling of their hand-polished, 10-and-one-half pound, M1 Garand rifles with fixed bayonets.

The last world record
