Jamaal Charles injured for Chiefs vs. Broncos, out for game

Knile Davis is filling in for Jamaal Charles, who came off the field.

UPDATEJamaal Charles has a sprained ankle

We don't have many specifics but Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles limped off the field early in Sunday's game against the Denver Broncos. He has been taken to the locker room with a left ankle injury, according to CBS, who said Charles was pointing to the Achilles part of his heel. It's unclear exactly what's wrong.

The Chiefs declared him questionable to return when he left with nine minutes left in the first quarter. He was later ruled out for the game.

Charles took a handoff up the middle of the field. Broncos S TJ Ward appeared to grab Charles' helmet and push it down. Charles stood up and walked off the field under his own power but with a slight limp.

The TV broadcast later showed Chiefs trainers looking at Charles' left foot.

Charles previously missed some time this preseason with a bruised foot, which he suffered while moving out of the dorms at training camp.

Charles doesn't come off the field very often so this is obviously a notable development. Here's to hoping it's only something minor.

More updates as they come.
