This just in: The Kansas City Chiefs get a lot of touchdowns from their defense and special teams. Thursday night's non-offensive scoring explosion against the Bengals made me start thinking of just how many touchdowns the Chiefs have gotten from their defense and special teams in the Andy Reid era.
The Chiefs in last year's preseason scored on two kick return touchdowns (Knile Davis and Quintin Demps).
In the 17 games (regular season and postseason), the Chiefs scored 11 total return touchdowns -- five interceptions, one fumble recovery, two kickoff returns, two punt returns and one special teams fumble recover.
In Thursday night's 2014 preseason opener, the Chiefs scored on two interception returns and one punt return touchdown.
The total numbers: 16 touchdowns over 22 games.
- Kick returns: 4
- Punt returns: 3
- Interceptions: 7
- Fumble: 1
- Fumble (special teams): 1
My expert analysis: That seems really good.
