1. Alex Smith was asked about Andy Dalton's deal and how it affects him today.
"To be honest, I had no idea they were even talking or that was happening. I just found out walking off the field just to give me a heads up because I'd probably get asked it. So other than that, I've got nothing for you. I don't know anything about it. I'm focused out here on camp, getting better. We've got a game on Thursday. It happens to be against those guys. But other than that, sorry."

2. I can see where Danny Parkins is coming from here (audio of his show here).
Alex Smith is already wealthy. Kap/Dalton were on 4 year/5 million deals. They needed max money. Smith will want max commitment in years.

Which is not to say Alex Smith will come cheap. Tom Condon doesn't do cheap. Just don't expect a pay-as-you-go structure like Kap/Dalton.

Exactly. 3 year minimum commitment RT @McCarty1982: ...would think the jay cutler contract is the structure for smith, not kapernick/dalton

3. I keep coming back to this quote from Alex Smith last month (via Randy Covitz at the Star)
"I love Kansas City, I love the coaching staff, the players. ... But when you're talking about this many years and that type of deal, you want it done right. You want both sides happy, and you want it to be something that is going to last and you can play out. A lot of things go into it."
