The reactions have been coming in quickly ever since news broke the Kansas City Chiefs were signing Alex Smith to a 4-year, $68 million extension with $45 million guaranteed. You can log your vote right here as to whether it was the right move or not.
I have collected some of the reactions to the contract extension below. As you'd expect, the reactions range from one extreme to the other -- this was the best or worst deal of all time.
Vote: Do you approve of the contract?
Here's what the Chiefs said about the new contract:
"It was a priority of ours to get this deal done and keep Alex in a Chiefs uniform long-term," Chiefs General Manager John Dorsey said in a statement. "Alex is a proven leader on and off the field. He is a special individual with a lot of ability, and we are fortunate to have him here."
"John and his staff along with Tom and his group have worked hard to get this deal done. They've done a nice job," Chiefs Head Coach Andy Reid said in a statement. "Alex is a smart, talented football player that has adapted well to our offensive scheme. He also, obviously, has had a tremendous amount of success as a quarterback in this league. We as a team are very happy to have Alex as our quarterback moving forward."

If there is a position that Andy Reid deserves total trust as far as his evaluation, it is QB. He has admired Alex for a long time.

Matt Ryan, w/same agent as Alex Smith, got $59M guaranteed last year. Kaep $61M. Cutler $54M. Dalton only got $25M. Alex has $45m.

Ugh, I'm just sick about that. Can't believe the #Chiefs screw up the QB position EVERY SINGLE TIME. Hate it so much.

So....uhhh....at least it's *only* four years?

I just want to know how easy it is to get out of this Alex Smith deal. That's all I care about.

Colin Kaepernick may have won the battle in San Francisco, but Alex Smith has won the war at the bank vault http://t.co/L03jFKR0yI

Alex Smith isn't the problem, loathe as some are to admit it. #Chiefs put up 44 on road in playoffs vs #Colts...without Jamaal Charles...

Alex Smith keeps Chiefs relevant....ask the Bills & they would gladly pay him to get out of their downward spiral
— Bobby Rosinski (@BobbyRosinski) August 31, 2014
Alex Smith got the 4 year deal he was wanting. We can win with him, but he wont live 4 years without an OL. #Chiefs

I predict that the Chiefs will have a QB controversy ine one of the last 2 years of that Alex Smith contract.

Are the Chiefs drunk? #AlexSmith

Say what you want about Alex Smith but he's produced as of late> 40 TD 12 INT 63.6 comp % (17-7-1 record). Not mad at the extension #Chiefs

It's gonna be funny when Smith has his best statistical year but his worst ever W-L record and his sycophants don't know what to do.
— Danny Parkins (@DannyParkins) August 31, 2014
Smith has already made $58 million in his career. Could negotiate more aggressively thank Kap/Dalton, demand better structure.
