Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid said Tuesday that neither Alex Smith nor Jamaal Charles would be playing in the Thursday preseason finale against the Green Bay Packers. Reid indicated other starters would be sitting as well.
Historically Reid hasn't played his first team offense much if at all in the final preseason game. There are a number of them (Dwayne Bowe, Eric Berry, Jamaal Charles) who are dealing with injuries anyway.
I don't think anyone is complaining that the starters won't be playing in a meaningless preseason game, especially when I can remember Tony Moeaki tearing his ACL in a meaningless preseason game in Green Bay three years earlier.
Reid said that Chase Daniel would start the game and get approximately a quarter of work. From there, the "two young guys" -- Tyler Bray and Aaron Murray -- would split the rest of the game.
Reid also said that Eric Fisher, who did not practice this week, has a sore throat so his absence isn't serious. Tamba Hali ha a swollen knee and will not play vs. the Packers.
The Chiefs kicking battle will continue into Green Bay with each kicker getting a chance to kick.
