The Kansas City Chiefs are down to NFL mandated 75 players ahead of Tuesday afternoon's deadline. The Chiefs announced the following players have been released: T Ryan McKee, CB Kevin Rutland, CB Damond Smith.
McKee is the only minor surprise here. He was signed this offseason after taking some time off of football and saw a little bit of time with the second team offense at tackle. He did not play in last Saturday night's preseason game. You can cross him off the list of candidates for the Chiefs swing tackle job. Mizzou fans may remember Kevin Rutland when he played there. Damond Smith was signed during training camp.
McKee and Smith were both waived / injured which means they'll revert to IR if they're not claimed.
You can find a Chiefs 53-man roster prediction here and check out the Chiefs depth chart.
The Chiefs started Monday with 90 players. They placed Sanders Commings on IR and released the following 11 players on Monday: WR Deon Anthony, DL Jairus Campbell, DT Jermell Cudjo, WR Weston Dressler, G Otis Hudson, WR Jerrell Jackson, CB Brandon Jones, CB Vernon Kearney, SJerron McMillian, TE Adam Schiltz, WR Darryl Surgent.
This puts the Chiefs at 75 players on the roster. They'll need to be down to 53 players by Saturday afternoon. The Chiefs play the Packers in the preseason finale on Thursday.
