Your Kansas City Chiefs roster cuts have officially begun with the Chiefs announcing the release of these 11 players and placed S Sanders Commings on IR, which puts them at 78 players on the roster.
WR Deon Anthony
DL Jairus Campbell
DT Jermell Cudjo
WR Weston Dressler
G Otis Hudson
WR Jerrell Jackson
CB Brandon Jones
CB Vernon Kearney
S Jerron McMillian
TE Adam Schiltz
WR Darryl Surgent
S Sanders Commings underwent ankle surgery last month. We were wondering if he was a short-term IR candidate but apparently not. Now I wonder if LB Joe Mays, who had wrist surgery, is a short-term IR candidate.
More roster moves coming
These roster moves put the Chiefs at 78 players. They need to be down to 75 players by Tuesday afternoon at 3 p.m. (Arrowhead Time). Following that, the Chiefs will cut down to 53 players on Saturday, August 30.
Here is a link to the Chiefs roster.
Weston Dressler's NFL dream might be over
The slot receiver from Canada was a star in the CFL. While there were hopes for him in the NFL, it just never really materialized. The Chiefs hardly gave any playing time to Dressler, who didn't stand out in training camp. Maybe it's the level of competition or maybe it's his size but Dressler just never got his chance.
Any surprises?
Jerron McMillian is the only notable surprise, and he's not even a big one. McMillian briefly took the third safety spot when Commings went down with his injury. He seemed to be in the mix with a number of safeties but never really pulled away. He was a former Packer.
