Kansas City Chiefs hold the all-time and preseason series lead over the Carolina Panthers

The Chiefs and Panthers face off in the second preseason game for each team.

The Kansas City Chiefs and Carolina Panthers square off on Sunday night for the second preseason game for each team. When it comes to the short series history between the two, the Chiefs hold a very slight lead.

The Chiefs own a 3-2 regular season series edge against the Panthers, although obviously the preseason format of Sunday's game will not change those numbers. The teams square off at Bank of America Stadium, where the Chiefs hold a 1-1 all-time record.

In the only previous preseason meeting, the Chiefs won 30-10 at Arrowhead Stadium in 1997.

Most recently, the Chiefs defeated the visiting Panthers, 27-21, on December 2, 2012 in a home game that helped break an eight-game losing streak. It was also one of two wins for the Chiefs that season. In Brady Quinn's finest hour as a professional quarterback (19 of 23 for 201 yards, two TDs, zero INTs), the Chiefs surprised the Panthers, who finished 7-9 that season. You may remember it as the game after the Jovan Belcher tragedy.

The Panthers are coming off of a preseason loss to the Buffalo Bills, 20-18. Like many teams in the first week of preseason play, the Panthers held out several players, including quarterback Cam Newton. Newton is expected to play against the Chiefs.
