One day after ESPN's Adam Teicher wrote that Dwayne Bowe "hasn't had a great camp," head coach Andy Reid told reporters on the final day of Kansas City Chiefs training camp that Bowe has been dealing with a finger injury.
Reid was asked a question about Eric Berry's heel injury and in his answer he had this to say about Bowe:
"There are guys that can do it like Dwayne Bowe has been out here and his finger is shot," Reid said Thursday, via quotes from the Chiefs. "It's been thrown out of place about 15 times, so now he's not catching the ball but he's getting his work done. You can practice with that kind of thing, it's hard to do that when it's your feet. But I give credit to some of these guys that have pushed through some of the injuries, but that one there (Berry's heel injury) you just have to back off."
Teicher's article made the rounds yesterday. Reid talked to the media today. Maybe the timing is a coincidence. Maybe Reid is sticking up for one of his players. I don't know.
A finger injury seems like a minor thing, and maybe it is. It also seems kind of important for a receiver who, ya know, uses his hands to catch the ball. Note that Bowe hasn't had any known injury problems since the first few days of camp. The Chiefs won't make an injury report until the first week of the season.
