Kansas City Chiefs have one of the biggest front sevens in the NFL

The KC Chiefs have the third heaviest front seven in the NFL, up from the fourth heaviest last season.

John Rieger-USA TODAY Sports

The Kansas City Chiefs front seven -- their three down lineman and four linebackers in the base 3-4 defense -- is expected to be one of the heaviest in the NFL.

Jimmy Kempski of Philly.com crunched the numbers on the projected weight of each team's front seven. The KC Chiefs came in third overall with an average weight of 280 pounds, about 18 pounds heavier than the the Dallas Cowboys, who are the lightest projected team.

The top three heaviest teams all have connections to Rex Ryan's defense as the New York Jets and the Baltimore Ravens are the two teams at the top of the list.

The Chiefs were one of the heaviest front sevens in the NFL last season, too. They were No. 4 overall, with the Ravens and Jets holding the top two spots last season.

Weight gain has been an interesting topic this offseason (and I'm not talking about my late night pizza run last weekend):

  • DE Allen Bailey bulked up to over 300 pounds this offseason;
  • DE Mike Catapano's weight gain was noticeable;
  • LB Tamba Hali was rumored to have put on weight, which may not be true.
