The Miami Dolphins are expected to be without their Pro Bowl C Mike Pouncey early in the 2014 season as he recovers from hip surgery. This according to a report from ESPN's Adam Schefter.
Why does this matter to Kansas City Chiefs fans? Because the Chiefs travel to Miami in Week 3. That would be September 21, three months from last Saturday. Kevin Nogle of The Phinsider calls Pouncey's reported three-month recovery time as "aggressive" so we're not expecting Pouncey to be available for the Chiefs and Dolphins Week 3 game.
Pouncey is far and away the Dolphins best offensive lineman. He is also the only starter remaining from last year. With Pouncey's, the Dolphins will have five new starters on the offensive line, including former Chief Branden Albert.
You hear that Dontari Poe?
Traveling to Miami and beating a Dolphins squad that finished with eight wins would not have been easy. It still won't be easy for the Chiefs but this is only good news for the Chiefs.
The Chiefs wanted to build up their defensive line and add more of a pass rush from their line. Mike DeVito said earlier this offseason that's something he wants to do. Free agent signee Vance Walker has that ability. And we all know Poe is the man. There are signs that the Chiefs defensive line will be able to put more pressure on the quarterback.
Hopefully that's the case against a brand new offensive line in Miami.
