UPDATE: Confirmed. Houston didn't show to mandatory minicamp.
The first line of Terez Paylor's article says it all:
Don't expect star outside linebacker Justin Houston to show up to Chiefs practice Tuesday.
Yep. Justin Houston is going to miss the KC Chiefs mandatory minicamp starting on Tuesday afternoon. This was the question entering the start of the three-day minicamp.
Go over and read the KC Star article with the details. Terez sums it all up nicely.
Andy Reid told 810 WHB on Monday that he didn't know if Houston would show up.
"I expect them all to be here and then whoever is here, we're going to coach them," Reid said. "If they don't show up, I understand the profession. I've been around it a long time and I just move on. That's how it works. You coach who you have, and you coach them like crazy."
Despite the details (and the tens of millions of dollars), this is one of those deals that makes too much sense not to get done. Like the Alex Smith contract extension talks, I imagine we will have these ups and downs throughout the process. The big picture is that the team wants him and the player (presumably) wants the team. These types of deals often end up getting done. Chiefs fans can only hope.
Currently, the Chiefs have $9.7 million in salary cap space. Houston could be subject to fines for missing mandatory minicamp.
The Chiefs hit the practice field at 1:20 p.m. (Arrowhead Time) today.
