Chiefs' Dee Ford was asked about Derrick Thomas, Von Miller comparisons

Here's what Dee Ford said when asked about those comparisons to Derrick Thomas and Von Miller from his teammates.

Earlier this week we drew attention to the serious praise Kansas City Chiefs first round pick Dee Ford has been receiving early on in the offseason program. The praise has been all about Ford's first step which is faster than my pal Sheldog when I drop a piece of food.

Ford was asked about those lofty comparisons on Thursday at Chiefs OTAs.

First, here's Tamba's quote: "If anybody reminds you of Derrick Thomas, that kid should pretty much remind you of Derrick Thomas' first step," Hali said. "He gets off the ball so fast, it's scary. I just kept rewinding it yesterday just looking at his first step and it's almost like as soon as the ball snaps, he's with it. I don't know if he times it, but his first step is incredible."

And Ford's response: "I'm honored and flattered, but I don't know. I'm just going to keep doing what I do and hopefully I can prove it in games. It's one thing to say it in OTAs, but I have to prove it in some games."

Now, here's Joe Mays' quote: "That guy is explosive," Mays said. "He's quick off the ball. He kinda reminds me of Von Miller with the way that he gets off the ball and gets around the offensive linemen. He's a freak man. He knows how to work angles and uses his hands real well. He can bend and do all types of stuff you don't see in the everyday pass rushers. Definitely ‘as advertised'."

And Ford's response: "That's an honor too. I don't want to think too much of it and get big headed because that's natural. But, it's an honor. I'm just going to keep doing what I do and try to perfect it."

To add to the Dee Ford praise, here's Mike DeVito being jealous of his first step: "You can see his ability to get off on the ball makes me a little jealous. He can fly off that rock and is already picking up the defense which is difficult because there's a lot to it."
