The Kansas City Chiefs welcomed six new draft picks and even more undrafted free agent and rookie minicamp invites. We'll get our first look at those new players on May 24 when the KC Chiefs rookie minicamp begins. The Chiefs draft picks will be in attendance for those workouts (whether they have a contract or n Thomot) followed by the start of OTAs.
The Chiefs offseason program began on April 21 with the Chiefs veteran. With the new draft picks in the fold, here's the offseason schedule for the Chiefs:
Rookie Minicamp: May 24-26
OTA Offseason Workouts: May 27-29, June 3-5, June 10-13
Mandatory Minicamp: June 17-19
Some players may still have school going on based on their college schedule (weird NFL rule) but I don't yet know if that applies to any of them. These aren't full-padded practices and there is no practicing so gaining any meaningful insights on those weekends will be difficult. What will be fun is seeing where the Chiefs line these players up and where they stand on the depth chart.
Will Dee Ford be on the field at the same time as Tamba Hali and Justin Houston? Where does Phillip Gaines fall on the corner depth chart? Is De'Anthony Thomas more of a receiver or a running back? How does the quarterback rotation look with Aaron Murray on the team? Is Murray healthy to play? Will Zach Fulton get a shot to compete at right guard? Is Laurent Duvernay-Tardif in the lead for the swing tackle spot?
We won't get answers to all of those on that first weekend but we will begin to answer some of them.
