Tracking the 2014 Kansas City Chiefs undrafted free agent signings

The Kansas City Chiefs will be making their 2014 undrafted free agent signings. We are tracking them all here. Follow along!

Jamie Squire

Right after the 2014 NFL Draft ends (and probably before), NFL teams will be working the phones to sign college players who were not drafted. The vast majority of these players will not make an active NFL roster and those that do will almost exclusively end up as special teams players (or on the practice squad). Of course, there are exceptions to every rule.

Over the last four years, the Kansas City Chiefs have signed 64 college free agents and 12 of those players have made the active roster. That's 19 percent of UDFA signings that make the active roster. From 2010 to 2013, the Chiefs signed three, two, four, and three UDFAs to the active roster, respectively. Here's the Chiefs' official list of UDFAs from 2013.

The offseason roster limit is 90 players. The current Kansas City Chiefs roster is at 75 players. Add in the six players the Chiefs drafted today and KC can sign nine undrafted free agents. Unsigned draft picks do count against the roster limit. That said, there could be some current players released to make room for new UDFAs. There will also be undrafted free agents who are invited to rookie minicamp who won't count against the roster limit. If you want to learn more about how much these players will get paid, head on over to this great post from Blogging the Boys.

A couple things to keep in mind: These are unconfirmed signings. These will mostly be based on Twitter reports. It's not uncommon for a player to say he's signing with one team and end up with another.

Also important is that some of these guys will be signed to the team and some will just be invited to rookie minicamp. There is a difference and many reports don't distinguish between that difference.

The Chiefs will make an official announcement of all college free agent signings next week. Until then, consider all this unconfirmed.
