Broncos-Chiefs on SNF looks like the best game on the Chiefs schedule

The best game on the Chiefs schedule is Sunday night against the Broncos. The worst is Thursday night in the Black Hole.

Denny Medley-USA TODAY Sports

What is the best game on the Kansas City Chiefs schedule?

For me, it's the Denver Broncos game at Arrowhead for Sunday Night Football in Week 13. That it's late in the season makes it more meaningful ... or at least we hope the playoffs are on the line and it's meaningful. The Broncos are the kings of the AFC West and the Chiefs will face them in primetime. As our pal Ric Flair says, to be the best, you must beat the best. The Chiefs came close in a Sunday night game vs. the Broncos at Arrowhead last year.

Also, this:

The next closest for me is Alex Smith's return to San Francisco when the Chiefs play the 49ers in Week 5. That will be at the 49ers new stadium. I'm really not sure how 49ers fans will treat Smith. There were plenty of folks from our 49ers blog, Niners Nation, who were still big fans of him so I wonder if the reception will be warm or if he'll get booed. Plus, the 49ers are one of the NFL's best teams so playing them will be a good test for the Chiefs, especially early in the season.

From there, I'm loving that the Patriots game is in primetime. It's not the same without GM Scott Pioli in town but like the 49ers the Patriots are one of the NFL's best teams. I'm not sure if the fact that it comes in Week 4 is a good thing or a bad thing. I guess I'd rather play the Patriots early rather than late when the playoffs are on the line and they have to win, right?

Of course I have to mention the Seahawks game, which comes in Week 11. Anyone ready for a new sound record?

Also, keep your eye on the Chargers game after the bye. Andy Reid has lost two post-bye week games in his career.

Other things I like:

  • Opening at home.
  • Ending at home.
  • The bye week. Not that it's so early but that it breaks up a stretch of four of five on the road.

My vote for the worst game might be Chiefs-Raiders Thursday night in Week 12. I'm not a huge Thursday Night Football fan, coming off the short week and all, but add in that it's in Oakland ... ugh. It's great they're in primetime and all but I'm sure that will be an ugly game because, you know, Oakland. Also because most Thursday night games are ugly.

Other things I dislike:

  • Playing three of the four conference championship teams by October 5
  • So many late afternoon starts early in the season. Just one noon game in the first seven weeks.
  • Games on Fox. That's an NFC channel. The Chiefs have two this year.
