Should the Chiefs trade Eric Berry?

Should they?

Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

The Kansas City Star's Sam Mellinger writes that now is the time for the KC Chiefs to trade Eric BerryThis should elicit very reasoned, well-thought responses from Chiefs fans.

The reasons for trading him boil down to him being a good safety and others around the league wanting to add a good safety. He's young and has some value. Sam pegs it as a second or third round pick but obviously it just takes one team to have an interest.

The problem I keep running into is that the Chiefs shouldn't be getting worse in the secondary after that was an issue last season. They shouldn't be getting rid of young ascending players when there are older players who are high paid, too. If this is a money thing, I just see other places I would try and cut first before getting to Berry.

It's really a value question. A less-skilled draft pick with a cheaper contract vs. a more skilled player and a higher contract.

Berry is good compared to his peers around the league -- I don't think many people are disputing that. So I guess it just comes down to how much John Dorsey and Andy Reid value the position.
