It's April 1, which means we are preparing for a lot of bad jokes and a few funny ones. It also means we are that much closer to the release of the Kansas City Chiefs 2014 NFL schedule.
The NFL historically has released the schedule sometime in mid-April, shortly before the NFL Draft. This year will be no different, according to NFL spokesman Greg Aiello, who told Pro Football Talk that the league is shooting for the normal release date of mid-April.
The schedule release usually comes in April but some wondered if it would be delayed this year due to the NFL Draft now taking place in May. Apparently, that won't be the case.
Historically, the NFL has released the schedule on a Tuesday. That would put key dates as April 15 and April 22, both Tuesdays in mid-April.
The NFL's schedule release is always a big deal to fans not only because they can start planning their fall weekends (and, in some cases, weddings and babies), but also because we can start making our predictions on the Chiefs schedule.
We already know the teams the Chiefs will play but we're just waiting on the actual schedule. The order of games does matter as evidenced by the Chiefs 9-0 start last year. That provided the necessary momentum to clinch a playoff spot late in the season.
Here are the Chiefs 2014 opponents:
HOME: Denver Broncos, Oakland Raiders, San Diego Chargers, New England Patriots, New York Jets, Tennessee Titans, St. Louis Rams, Seattle Seahawks
AWAY: Denver Broncos, Oakland Raiders, San Diego Chargers, Buffalo Bills, Miami Dolphins, Pittsburgh Steelers, Arizona Cardinals, San Francisco 49ers
How many primetime games will there be? We asked this question in February.
