Chiefs contract talks with Alex Smith are 'ongoing', according to GM John Dorsey

Where are the Chiefs extension talks with Alex Smith? They're "ongoing", according to GM John Dorsey.

Just in case you forgot, Alex Smith's extension is supposed to be the biggest story of the offseason. No, the extension hasn't come yet but KC Chiefs GM John Dorsey did tell us in a conference call on Tuesday that negotiations with Alex Smith and his reps continue.

"That's an ongoing process as we speak," Dorsey said. "We've had communication with his reps and that's kinda where we are."

This is about as much as you're going to get out of Dorsey, who explained to reporters, "I don't really talk about [negotiations] outside of the building." So you'd get the same answer for Justin Houston, who is also said to be talking to the Chiefs about a new deal.

That means we wait.

Alex Smith has one more year left on his deal at $7.5 million in 2014. A contract extension could be anywhere from one year to five years. The Chiefs brass nor Smith's camp have given us any indication of how long they're talking or what kind of money we're talking.

Chiefs owner Clark Hunt, along with Dorsey previously, has indicated an extension is likely coming at some point. When the boss says something is going to get done, it usually does.
