With a reported $9 million in cap space, the Kansas City Chiefs have watched their top free agents walk this offseason. They may not have had enough money to be players on the first day of free agency but they do have a little wiggle room if they wanted to sign a mid-level free agent.
I went through the list of the top remaining free agents and found seven names that the Chiefs should consider. Some may be in their price range, some may not be.
CB Walter Thurmond
Former Seahawks corner. He's 5'11 and 190 pounds. We know the Chiefs and everyone else in the NFL like those Seattle defensive backs.
LB Brandon Spikes
He could fill Akeem Jordan's spot. Previously played with the Patriots. Run-stopper but not very good in coverage.
DT BJ Raji
Does he fit? I don't really know. He's a former Packer and the Chiefs could use defensive line help. He was supposedly going back to Green Bay at one point but hasn't yet.
WR James Jones
Also from Green Bay. He had his best season last year, which means his value is at its highest. Probably not for the Chiefs.
DT Antonio Smith
Veteran option at defensive end. He's drawing visits but none with the Chiefs yet.
TE Jermichael Finley
The Chiefs were linked to him a while back. He's waiting to be medically cleared after a neck injury last season.
WR Emmanuel Sanders
Former Steeler who remains unsigned. Not sure where he's getting interest.
