Frank Zombo will return to Kansas City Chiefs, according to report

The Kansas City Chiefs will be holding onto OLB Frank Zombo, according to a report. You can keep track of the status of all of the Chiefs' free agents here.

We've been waiting for the Kansas City Chiefs to make a free agent move. And now they have. According to report from Fox Sports, the KC Chiefs will re-sign OLB Frank Zombo before he hits free agency.

Zombo is a former Green Bay Packer so he has the John Dorsey connection.

Dorsey said later in a statement: "Frank was a key member of our defense and special teams units last season, and we are looking forward to having him back."

Zombo was signed last year to act as as a special teamer and the Chiefs third pass rusher, a role that came in handy when both Justin Houston and Tamba Hali were injured during the season. Zombo collected 27 tackles, two sacks and an interception on the season.

He's in one of those roles where, ideally, he doesn't play much at outside linebacker because that would mean Houston and Hali are healthy and on the field. But in the NFL plenty of injuries happen so depth positions can become extremely important. Zombo started five games last season in his role so he could be playing a big role at some point.

No word on what kind of contract this is.
