Kansas City Chiefs LB Akeem Jordan is scheduled to be a free agent on Tuesday afternoon and, according to one report, there are six teams expressing interest in him. Aaron Wilson of National Football Post reports on Jordan's interest but the teams are not named. There is a workout scheduled with an AFC team this week, according to the report.
No word on whether one of those interested teams is the Chiefs.
Jordan was signed last April as the Chiefs starting inside linebacker next to Derrick Johnson. LB Nico Johnson was drafted in the fourth round but Jordan held him off and kept his starting job. Jordan did not play in the Chiefs sub packages so he wasn't playing every snap.
Jordan first joined Andy Reid's Eagles in 2007 as an undrafted free agent and followed him to Kansas City, so there are some strong ties to Reid there.
Last year, Jordan wasn't a highly sought after free agent and didn't sign with the Chiefs until April, a month after free agency started, which is why I was surprised to see this report about six teams showing interest in him already. Of course, we have no idea what level of interest they have -- teams could be getting ready to sign him on day one ... or they could be waiting a few weeks.
I think the #Chiefs may want Jordan back, though. Reid and Dorsey appreciate his lunch-pail mentality and consistency. Will come down to $$$— Terez A. Paylor (@TerezPaylor) March 10, 2014
With a workout scheduled with an AFC team next Thursday, it looks like Jordan will be hitting the open market on Tuesday afternoon. Based on last year, I wouldn't expect him to sign with a team right away.
