From 2008-2010, Nick Collins was a Pro Bowl safety for the Green Bay Packers, who at the time had John Dorsey on the staff. Dorsey, of course, is now the Chiefs GM and the Chiefs have a need for a safety. Collins is currently a free agent.
A good match? There's more to the story.
In September 2011, Collins suffered a neck injury, which required surgery. The Packers did not clear him so they released him in April 2012. He has not played since. He took to his Twitter account this week to let everyone know that he's ready to play.

Medical questions remain considering he hasn't played in over two years. If there are medical concerns, then the conversation stops now. Team doctors won't clear someone they have concerns about, especially neck concerns.

"My whole purpose of doing what I did on Twitter, I wanted to remind everybody I'm still out there and I'm willing to play given the opportunity," said Collins, who is a free agent and thus free to sign with any team. (Collins' agent, Alan Herman, said Tuesday that Collins' medical status had not changed.) "That was the whole purpose of my Tweets on Monday. Just to say, ‘I'm ready, I'm 100 percent healed.'
It's an interesting situation to say the least, given that Dorsey is familiar with him and that safety is obviously a need for the Chiefs, who have three safeties set to be free agents (Kendrick Lewis, Quintin Demps and Husain Abdullah ... all Chiefs free agents here).
