Kansas City Chiefs re-sign one of their own free agents

The KC Chiefs have re-upped one of their own free agents in Thomas Gafford, the long snapper, who received a one-year extension.

Benny Sieu-US PRESSWIRE

The Kansas City Chiefs have a dozen free agents entering the 2014 NFL free agency period.

Actually, make that 11 free agents.

Over The Cap noticed this first but the KC Chiefs have re-signed long snapper Thomas Gafford. He was set to be a free agent when free agency began on March 11 but, according to NFLPA records, the Chiefs have inked him to a one-year contract for $730,000, about what he made last year.

I can't think of any botched special teams snaps so ... Gafford is doing a good job? That's what you would call the eye test. The Chiefs obviously like him. Gafford has survived FOUR head coaches and three GMs in Kansas City dating back to 2008. Now that's impressive.

Important Thomas Gafford note: His nickname is apparently the flying squirrel.

I have the list of players below scheduled to be 2014 free agents. You can guess that the list will shrink as we move closer to free agency.
