With news of the NFL selling half of its Thursday Night Football package to CBS (and the other half on NFL Network), it got me thinking about the Kansas City Chiefs 2014 schedule. We know the teams the Chiefs will be playing but won't know the actual schedule until April.
The Thursday Night Football schedule talk this week got me thinking about how many primetime games the Chiefs will have. We know they'll have at least one game on Thursday night because every team does. So that's one primetime game.
But how many more primetime games could they get?
Must Reads
I would set the over / under at 2.5. In addition to one Thursday night game, the Chiefs playoff season in 2013 likely puts them in contention for another primetime games, possibly two more.
Here are the Chiefs 2014 opponents:
HOME: Denver Broncos, Oakland Raiders, San Diego Chargers, New England Patriots, New York Jets, Tennessee Titans, St. Louis Rams, Seattle Seahawks
AWAY: Denver Broncos, Oakland Raiders, San Diego Chargers, Buffalo Bills, Miami Dolphins, Pittsburgh Steelers, Arizona Cardinals, San Francisco 49ers
The Broncos (twice) seems like a very good candidate for primetime games. Both are expected to be good teams and it's a great rivalry. The NFL loves that.
Two NFC West teams seem like good possibilities, too -- Seahawks and 49ers. Of those two, I would most want to see the Chiefs play the 49ers, mostly because of the San Francisco connections the Chiefs have on their team (like Alex Smith). But playing the defending national champs on primetime? That would be sweet, too.
Because of the Missouri connections, I wonder about the Rams game, too. That feels like it could be a late season Thursday night game that most of the country doesn't care about. Remember, every team will play a Thursday night game.
How many primetime games will the Chiefs have?
