Chiefs' Andy Reid comes in second for AP NFL coach of the year voting

Andy Reid is NOT the 2013 coach of the year, according to the Associated Press. That award went to Ron Rivera, who guided the Carolina Panthers to the Divisional round. The Kansas City Chiefs head coach came in second in the voting, according to the (other) AP. New England Patriots' Bill Belichick was third in the coach of the year voting.

The vote is a bit of a surprise to me. I really expected Andy Reid to win it. Last month he took home the 101 Awards AFC coach of the year award. Ron Rivera was the NFC winner.

The biggest stat that matters is wins and nobody improved their team in that category more than Andy Reid. The 2012 Chiefs won just two games; the 2013 Chiefs won 11 games. That's a nine-game difference, compared to the Panthers improving from seven to 12 wins.

Even without the award, everyone knows the KC Chiefs were a great comeback story led by Andy Reid. There's no question who the Chiefs leader is. Andy Reid's steadiness helped as the Chiefs hit valleys and peaks throughout the season.

I feel good about the Chiefs future under Andy Reid, coach of the year award or not.
