The Kansas City Chiefs just signed 14 players to reserve / future contracts, which are basically offseason contracts for players who were not on an active roster at the end of the season. 10 of the players signed came from the Chiefs practice squad while four more came from the outside.
10 players signed off practice squad: TE Brandon Barden, WR Armon Binns, LB JoJo Dickson, DT Hebron Fangupo, G Ricky Henry, DB Deji Olatoye, G Jarrod Pughsley, TE Adam Schiltz, WR Fred Williams, DE Jerel Worthy.
Four new players signed: T Derek Sherrod, RB Spencer Ware, T Curtis Feigt and LS Jorgen Hus.
The most intriguing name here is Derek Sherrod, who is an offensive tackle. He was a 2011 first round pick by the Green Bay Packers back when current Chiefs GM John Dorsey worked in Green Bay. Sherrod broke his leg in that 2011 Chiefs-Packers game where Kansas City beat the previously unbeaten Packers. Sherrod missed all of the 2012 season and played in only half of the 2013 and 2014 season. The Packers cut him midway through this season. The Chiefs aren't married to many players on the offensive line so I'm all for bringing in anyone and everyone for a look-see.
The real football nerds in the house will also note the long snapper, Jorgen Hus. The contract for the Chiefs current long snapper, Thomas Gafford, is expiring in March. The Chiefs had signed a long snapper a few weeks ago but the Browns signed him off their practice squad. So clearly the Chiefs want competition next year.
