Alex Smith, De'Anthony Thomas nominated for NFL weekly awards

A couple of Chiefs were nominated for some of the NFL's weekly awards for their performances in Week 15.

While any player will say that a win was a team effort in postgame comments, two members of the Kansas City Chiefs are being celebrated for their individual performances in the team's win over the Oakland Raiders in Week 15.

Every week, the NFL announces the winners of the FedEx Air and Ground Players of the Week. Alex Smith was nominated along with two other quarterbacks for their performances from last Sunday. In the Chiefs 31-13 victory over Oakland, Smith completed 18 of 30 passes for a season-high 297 passing yards. Smith had two touchdown passes and zero interceptions, good for a 115.6 passer rating.

Smith faces competition from Ben Roethlisberger of the Pittsburgh Steelers and Drew Brees of the New Orleans Saints. You can vote for Smith here. With a win, FedEx will donate $2,000 to a local chapter of the Red Cross.

DeAnthony Thomas put the Chiefs on the scoreboard in the win over Oakland with an incredible 81-yard punt return for a touchdown. He finished with 156 return yards, two rushes for 14 yards and a single catch for five yards. You can see the full rundown of the week's top rookies here.
