NFL playoff picture: Dolphins beat Jets, push Chiefs out of playoff spot

The updated playoff picture after Week 13 has the Chiefs out.

The updated AFC playoff picture has the Kansas City Chiefs on the outside looking in. The Chiefs were the sixth and final team in before the Miami Dolphins played the New York Jets on Monday Night Football. The Dolphins beat the Jets which moved Miami to 7-5 on the season, and pushing them over the Chiefs for the sixth playoff spot.

The Chiefs would be out if the playoffs started today ... but they don't start today! So that's a good thing.

There are six 7-5 teams in the AFC. The Chiefs did beat the Dolphins head to head but the tiebreakers for the Wild Card work differently when there are more than two teams with the same record. Unless one team has swept everyone or lost to everyone the next tiebreaker is the conference record. The Dolphins have a better AFC record (6-3) than the Chiefs (5-4) so they're ahead of Kansas City.

The Chiefs have four games left this season (at Arizona, Oakland, at Pittsburgh, San Diego) to push themselves back into the AFC playoff picture. It's still very possible that the Chiefs make the playoffs despite the last two weeks. There is a lot of football to be played.
