Chiefs activate LB Joe Mays, release LB Jerry Franklin

Chiefs officially bring Joe Mays back to the active roster.

Jamie Squire

The return of LB Joe Mays is close. It could be very, very close.

The Chiefs on Saturday activated Mays from injured reserve. To make room for him on the roster, the Chiefs cut LB Jerry Franklin, who was injured.

Mays injured his wrist before the season and was placed on short-term IR. Mays began practicing a couple of weeks ago and the Chiefs officially activating him means he is all the way back.

I do not know if the Chiefs plan on playing Mays in the Bills game today but it would not surprise me at all if they did. Why else would they activate him on Saturday unless they planned on playing him on Monday?

Mays was the Chiefs starting inside linebacker entering the season before his injury. Josh Mauga and James-Michael Johnson have done a nice job replacing Mays and Derrick Johnson, who is lost for the season. This makes the Chiefs defense stronger.
