Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Donnie Avery had sports hernia surgery a few days before the Chiefs Week 5 game against the San Francisco 49ers and has not yet returned to the field.
"I think Donnie has a pretty good shot [of playing]," Andy Reid told reporters on Wednesday.
That's good news if he can go. Avery, who has practiced on and off for a few weeks, is no savior (neither is Jason Avant) but he's still better than what the Chiefs currently have and fulfills a need (for speed) that the Chiefs don't currently have.
AJ Jenkins was replacing Avery but he is now on IR. Then it was Frankie Hammond but the Chiefs haven't seen much production out of him. So the Chiefs could obviously use Avery's presence the rest of the season.
Speaking of receivers, Reid also indicated that new Chiefs WR Jason Avant will be ready to play on Sunday against Denver.
