The Kansas City Chiefs have placed WR AJ Jenkins on injured reserve and signed WR Jason Avant, the Chiefs confirmed on Friday afternoon. It was reported earlier today that Avant, the former Eagles WR under Andy Reid, had been signed and now the Chiefs have confirmed it. Jenkins going to IR is the roster spot that will go to Avant.
Jenkins suffered a shoulder injury just over a week ago and has not practiced or played since. His injury must be longer than day to day because this will end his season.
Jenkins was the No. 2 receiver when Donnie Avery was out. Besides the occasional 20-plus yard play here and there, Jenkins didn't provide much spark to the offense. The Chiefs are still reeling at that No. 2 receiver position with Avery out and Frankie Hammond starting.
I don't expect Avant to light the world on fire but the Chiefs haven't gotten much production from the receiver position this season so the bar has been set low. If Avant has good hands and can be a nice third down option he'll already be an upgrade.
