NFL power rankings 2014: Chiefs ahead of Broncos? Yes, please!

The Chiefs are ahead of the Broncos in a number of power rankings.

Chris Humphreys-USA TODAY Sports

When the Kansas City Chiefs are ranked too low, I will tell you that the NFL power rankings don't matter. When the Chiefs are ranked accurately, I will tell you power rankings matter. A LOT! I am kidding (only kind of) because of a very interesting set of power rankings I came across.

Danny Kelly of SB Nation has his full set of 2014 NFL power rankings and the Chiefs are ranked fourth. That's not the best part though. The best part is that the Broncos are ranked fifth, which puts them BEHIND the Chiefs.

But wait! There's more! Guess which team our Broncos blog, Mile High Report, ranks ahead of the Broncos ... the Chiefs! Indeed, MHR has the Chiefs No. 4 and the Broncos No. 5.

Want more? The Denver Post ranks the Chiefs No. 2 in the AFC and the Broncos No. 3 in the AFC.

Now these are some power rankings I can get behind.

It was only a couple weeks ago that the Denver Post ranked the Chiefs ahead of the Broncos in the AFC. And the Chiefs have now won five straight and are tied with the Broncos atop the AFC West. So it's not a stretch for someone to say that the two teams are equal or that the Chiefs, who have won seven of their last eight, are playing at a higher level after they beat the defending champs and the Broncos lost to the Rams.
