Sources: Chiefs' Justin Houston likely to be free agent or franchise tagged - Yahoo Sports

Though the Kansas City Chiefs and two-time Pro Bowl linebacker Justin Houston have engaged in discussions on a long-term deal for nearly a year, the two sides remain "worlds apart," multiple sources familiar with the negotiations told Yahoo Sports. It appears likely that Houston, who is in the final year of his contract, will either enter free agency or be given the franchise tag, according to multiple sources.

Chiefs’ tackle Eric Fisher has been thrown into the fire on the left side | The Kansas City Star

Fisher, the Chiefs’ second-year left tackle, had just spent the entire game going toe-to-toe with the Rams’ resident half-man, half-cyborg pass rusher Robert Quinn, and while the result wasn’t exactly ideal — he gave up a sack and was whistled for illegal use of hands and a false start — he was still a part of a rushing attack that rolled up 143 yards and a passing attack that helped quarterback Alex Smith set a franchise record for single-game completion percentage.

Power rankings: No. 15 Kansas City Chiefs - ESPN

The Kansas City Chiefs' reward in ESPN's Power Rankings for beating the St. Louis Rams 34-7 was to drop a spot this week. The Chiefs are 15th, down from 14 last week.

Inside Slant: NFL Week 8 QB Report - ESPN

The Kansas City Chiefs' approach Sunday provided an unintended preview of Monday's news that quarterback Alex Smith had suffered a strained throwing shoulder. Only one of his 28 attempts traveled more than 10 yards downfield. The rest traveled 10 yards or fewer, and 164 of his 226 passing yards (72.6) came after the catch.

Does Alex Smith's injury explain short passing game vs. Rams? - ESPN

I’m not sure the Chiefs were protecting an injured player as much as doing things the way they do them. Their game plan didn’t change after the injury, as opposed to before. The Chiefs have used a short passing game all season. Smith has had similar games this season where’s he has attempted few passes down the field with a September game against the Miami Dolphins being a prime example.

"They don’t do this in New York, do they?" Effertz laughed. "We’re set up for it. We’ve been doing it forever. I think it has to do with barbecue."

Chiefs center Rodney Hudson bounces back from injury to anchor offensive line | The Kansas City Star

The play only went for six yards, but it was an example of the way the Chiefs’ low-key center has been going about his work this season — reliable, efficient and occasionally eye popping. His Pro Football Focus grade of 5.8 ranks eighth among 40 eligible centers.

An ode to Arrowhead – The Maneater

I found out anything can be turned into a tailgate. Buses, vans, bikes. I saw an old meat truck that had been completely gutted in the back and now housed two bars, along with hardwood floors. One guy was using his tailpipe to fire up his grill. Best idea? Probably not, but wow, did it look cool.

Chiefs to honor American Indian Heritage Month | The Kansas City Star

The Chiefs, like other professional sports franchises and colleges with mascots deriving from Native American heritage, have been under pressure by some organizations to change their nickname, but the club is working with American Indian groups to honor their traditions. This week’s celebration began on Tuesday and will culminate with the team’s American Indian Heritage Month game on Sunday when the Chiefs face the New York Jets at noon at Arrowhead Stadium.

Opponent Profile: Jets Search For Answers In Kansas City - CBS New York

Can things get any worse for the New York Jets and head coach Rex Ryan? The answer to that question is of course, yes, but New York fans are probably wondering just how much more suffering is awaiting them.

The Film Don t Lie: Kansas City Chiefs - ESPN

The Chiefs threw a bubble screen to Kelce for a big gain against the Rams. That type of play would work in many instances with Kelce, Bowe or Thomas. The Chiefs have had trouble with timing issues in throwing the screen pass but have made it work in the past with Charles, who is superb in setting up blocks.

Argonauts come to terms on contract with linebacker Cory Greenwood |

Toronto selected Greenwood, a native of Kingston, Ont., third overall in the 2010 CFL draft but he signed with the NFL’s Kansas City Chiefs shortly afterwards. Greenwood played three seasons with the Chiefs then joined the Detroit Lions, spending all of last season on injured reserve before being released.
