Kansas City Chiefs add a tight end to the practice squad

The KC Chiefs added TE Brandon Barden to the practice squad.

The Kansas City Chiefs worked out two free agent tight ends last week, including the brother of Ravens QB Joe Flacco. The Chiefs did not sign Joe Flacco's brother (the Jaguars did that) but they did sign the other tryout tight end, Brandon Barden. This according to the NFL's Monday transactions report (H/T Herbie Teope who noticed it before me.)

Barden joins the final spot on the practice squad, not the active roster. The Chiefs cut two players from the practice squad last week and signed another one to the practice squad, former Ravens CB Deji Olatoye, later in the week. That left one open spot on the practice squad which will be filled by Barden.

Barden, 25, is a 6'5, 246-pound tight end out of Vanderbilt. He spent time with the Titans and Jaguars before joining the Chiefs. NFL.com credits him with three games in the 2012 season.

The Chiefs are doing pretty well at tight end right now with Anthony Fasano and Travis Kelce seeing the bulk of the snaps. When a third tight end comes on the field, it's Demetrius Harris. Barring injuries, those should be the top three tight ends on the active roster for the season.
