Most Week 7 NFL power rankings say the Kansas City Chiefs are slightly below average. I found 2014 NFL power rankings for this week that have the Chiefs as high as 15 (but that guy thinks the Chiefs are 3-2, not 2-3) while others ranked them as low as No. 20. The Chiefs have played some very good teams in the Denver Broncos, New England Patriots and San Francisco 49ers, but they'e only beaten one of those teams.
The Chiefs beating the Chargers this week would move them up in the power rankings without question. The Chargers are ranked in the top three in most of these power rankings so that would be a big step up for the Chiefs.
Here's this week's power rankings roundup.
This offense can be effective running to set up play-action, as it was Sunday. After play-action fakes, Alex Smith finished 6-of-10 for 92 yards and a pair of touchdowns.
Take down the Chargers in San Diego, and suddenly the AFC West becomes a three-team race.
They're looking at 2-4 without an upset at San Diego this week. That's what happens when the schedule goes from unbelievably easy like it was last year to really difficult this season.
At 3-2, they have to be happy with the way they've started. The passing game has to get it cranked up going forward to have a playoff chance. [Note by Joel: I would take 3-2 for the Chiefs ... unfortunately they're 2-3.]
Bye weeks are nice ... unless you spend them watching the Broncos and Chargers lap you in the divisional standings.
