Weston Dressler expected to sign with Kansas City Chiefs, according to multiple reports

Are the Kansas City Chiefs about to sign an all-star WR from the CFL? As the magic 8-ball says, signs point to yes.

Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

I don't know much about the Canadian football media but lots of them are saying the Kansas City Chiefs have agreed to a deal with the CFL's Saskatchewan Rough Riders WR Weston Dressler. Actually, that's former Rough Riders WR Weston Dressler. The team released him on Thursday so that he could pursue his NFL interests.

According to a number of media folks in Canada, Dressler is expected to sign with the Chiefs. Or he has already. Or will or something. Read this for our last update on this story. And read below for the latest, which sure makes it seem like Dressler is about to become a Chief:

TSN:

The Grey Cup-champion Saskatchewan Roughriders released all-star slotback Weston Dressler on Thursday.

The move wasn't a surprise. Dressler, 28, was scheduled to become a free agent Feb. 15 and was exploring his NFL options.

Dave Naylor of TSN Radio 1050 confirms Dressler has agreed to join the Kansas City Chiefs, the team he worked out with earlier this month, pending a physical.

A few weeks ago, when the Chiefs first worked Dressler out, I went on a few radio stations in Canada. I was very surprised at how big of a deal Dressler was in his own community. One of the hosts said something like, "If you're wearing a Weston Dressler jersey in this town, no one's going to question you." So he's a pretty big deal in the CFL.

Which explains this:

We shall await official word from the Chiefs on this signing. They haven't been officially announcing some of the players that have been signed to reserve / future deals (like this guy) so I hope we hear something definitive on Dressler. I'm sure our Canada media friends will be all over it.

Signing Dressler would also make me wonder about Dexter McCluster, another small-ish slot receiver who returns kicks. McCluster, by the way, is scheduled to be a free agent.
