The Kansas City Chiefs are breathing a sigh of relief with the news that Jamaal Charles' injury doesn't appear to be serious. Following Sunday's game against the Jacksonville, both Charles and Andy Reid said Charles was OK.
Speaking to the media on Monday, Reid called it a quad contusion.
"Jamaal has a quad contusion," Reid said, via quotes sent out by the Chiefs. "He does have a range of motion, but we'll just see how he does here over this week. He is moving around today, he's ok."
I don't expect Reid to say much about Charles' injury in the days leading up to the game. If he doesn't have to, there are competitive reasons not to. On Wednesday the Chiefs will issue their first weekly injury report and that's when we'll start to gain an idea of how much Charles is doing. But right now it doesn't seem like a serious thing.
Over at SB Nation, Dr. Ali laid out a common scenario with quad injuries.
"If the injury is a strain -- presumably a mild one -- the most significant issue going forward will be preventing re-injury, which requires rest until the muscle has completely healed. If it is a muscle bruise, the greatest concern would be managing the pain associated with contact to the affected area."
