Note: I am taking this game ball idea from AP user gi_hoke and naming it the Arrowhead Award. Arrowhead Addict does something similar called handing out the Arrowheads so we acknowledge stealing part of their idea as well.
Finding a candidate for the KC Chiefs game ball in Week 1 isn't as easy as you'd think. Sure, the Chiefs dominated the Jaguars, 28-2, but this was truly a team effort. There were standouts on both offense and defense ... but there were a lot of them.
The leading defensive candidates would be Justin Houston, who had three sacks, and Tamba Hali, who had a pick-six. But Pro Football Focus gave their game ball to Derrick Johnson, who had a great game. And then you're forgetting about Dontari Poe, who looked strong at nose tackle.
Offensively, there aren't as many candidates. Alex Smith had an efficient, but not eye-popping day. Jamaal Charles nearly averaged five yards a carry and you know just how great he is when that's actually a yard less than his career average.
KCChiefs.com chronicled the action in the locker room after the game where Clark Hunt gave Andy Reid the game ball for his first win as Chiefs head coach, which you can see in the picture above.
